Interests
from Hans-Joachim Weiß
As manifold and various as my past life, are also my interests. The desire to experience and to learn new things is pretty dominating. There are some interest-emphases on which I would like to tell you a little bit more.
A pretty high importance do have the topics politics and trade union.
Socially, economics and European politics I dedicate special attention. About these topics I visited numerous seminars of the large political donations. I do

read lectures, regional German newspapers, news magazines and the current transmissions in the visual media, like TV and the Internet to get to know the newest conditions of the politics. I still find my political home in the extremely “left wing” with the Social Democrats.
Because of my over thirty-year old union membership there are many contacts to the colleagues and colleagues in the united service trade union ver.di. The honorary activity for the person's group of the seniors takes a substantial part of my time and also of my interests of cause. Even if all trade unions at present frequently and often unfair-proves are attacked, it accompanied me over a long time of my life and is a piece of my "heart’s blood”.

Who should represent my interests otherwise, if not the trade union?
As a son of a ship yard worker and a grandchild of a ship officer also everything what does deal with maritime fascinates me. The North Sea coast and the city Bremerhaven do benefit me much with these interests. In my childhood already, ships and everything what has to do with it caught my interest. Still today I love these things. I dream about a trip on a Big-sailer and a cargo ship journey. Perhaps this dream becomes true someday.

Due to my former activity at Lufthansa aviation and airplanes are a further point of my interests. Takeoff and landing of an airplane accelerate as always my pulse and let my heart beat pretty fast.
Probably with the love for ships and airplanes my constantly existing desire on journeys is to be explained. Here I also profit partly from my honorary work as a chaperon at the BEW, care and recovery work in Bremerhaven. The slogan "travelling educates" cannot be too wrong, that is my own experience. The memory of many beautiful and sometimes adventurous journeys do always stay in my mind. There is still much to discover...!
And now the unbelievable thing. Three years ago, computer and Internet were still the worst thing for me. Thus I did not want to have anything to do with. Until once a good friend explained to me that we already live for some time in the so-called communication and information age. That made me think. Today I cannot imagine an informative life without hard and software any longer. Am I already "addicted"? My common-law-wife Baerbel says that she thinks it is very precariously for me. The positive thing: without these "addiction" there wouldn't be this homepage. Wouldn’t that be a pity?

Now some people will ask themselves whether I still have a private life. I would like to be honest, it is often pretty constricted . However I would skip a very important appointment for a meal in a good restaurant, shopping or taking a walk and sometimes even a pub visit (pubs are important, because youcan look into peoples "mouth" there).
And last but not least. I hate party events, where some important functionaries tell stupid, antisocial stuff, every four years want to be re-elected - then try to be extremely friendly - and nevertheless think only of their own INTERESTS.
Nobody will ever take my independence and conviction to my own interests, particularly in social - and sociopolitical ambit away. I promise!
